Vivaldi is an another new desktop web browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux, developed basically for individuals who like to customize their browser according to their need. Vivaldi comes with a nice flat ui design. Similar to Google Chrome, Vivaldi is also based on the Chromium Platform and all the Chrome extensions can be downloaded and installed on Vivaldi. You can customize vivaldi according to your need by assigning custom keyboard shortcuts, mouse gestures, tab layout, panel layout and varoius other options.
For quick acess to varoius customization options , you can press F2 on keybaord and search for anything vivaldi has to offer like notes, panels, bookmarks e.t.c.
1. Tab Stacking – Group your favourite tabs together
Tab Stacking is a nice useful feature which allows us to group various tabs into one. For example, you can use this feature to group your all social networking tabs into one place. It can save a lot of time when you have a lot of tabs open at a time and you want to quickly find and navigate to a different website. To stack tabs simply drag a tob on to the another when the tab color becomes grey. Hover over the newly stacked tab and you will see the thumbnails of all the sites , clicking on anyone of them will open that site.
2. Page Tiling – Browse multiple website in the same window
You can browse multiple website at the same time with page tiling. After you have stacked all your tabs in to one tab, you can navigate to bottom right and click on page tiling option. You can select the from the different page layouts like grid, horizontal and vertical. Grid option only works when you have more then three tabs stacked.
3. Notes – Take quick notes within the browser
Vivaldi also comes with a simple inbuilt note taking feature which can be useful when you need it. Click on show panel option at the botton left and a new panel at left will open. Click on the notes icon and you will be presented with a text field to add your notes. You can copy text or link from websites and paste in to your notes. you can also add screenshots by hovering over the plus icon and then clicking camera icon. You can also quickly add any paragraph as a new note by simply selecting the paragraph and then from the context menu slect “add selection as new note”. You can also arrange notes into folders.
4. Mouse Gestures – Quickly perform browser action using gestures
You can also make use of mouse gestures to perform various browser tasks like opning or closing a tab. For comlete list of default gestures head over to tool > settings > mouse. You can click the “+” icon to create a custom gesture.
5. Web Panel – Never miss a conversation using web panels
Web panel allows you to dock a site to left or right side of the screen. This can be used in many situations like when you want follow a trending topic on twitter or chat with friends while browsing the web. While browsing websites, right click and select “Add page to web panel” to add any webpage to web panel. To open a website from web panel , navigate to show panel window from bottom right and click on the plus icon and enter the website url.
Vivaldi also offers many other small useful customization which can be accessed from the settings menu(Alt+P).
